Developing Applications of Speech and Language Technology

Although the ICISLT program does not intend to directly develop and market end-user products, it can help you or your company do so.

ICISLT affiliated faculty (and eventually alumni) are available for consulting projects arranged on a case-by-case basis.

Affiliated companies may sponsor application development projects.  Although sponsored development projects are distinct from the courses, the application development courses provide examples of the kind of projects that could be be done as sponsored projects.  Additional examples of potential applications include:

  • Directory Assistance
  • Information Phone Service
  • Help Desk
  • Dictation of Medical Reports
  • General Dictation
  • Factory Automation
  • Automated Telephone Receptionist
  • Speech Synthesis for Automated Response
  • Voice Control for Hands-busy, Eyes-busy Vehicle Navigation Systems
  • Voice Controlled Robots and Appliances
  • Home Security Systems
  • Cross-language Document Search
  • Anti-terrorist Security
  • Summarization and Gisting of Documents
  • Language Study Devices
  • Facilitating Multi-site, Multi-lingual Audio Conferencing
  • Speech-to-Speech Translation

Employees of affiliated companies may participate in development projects as students in project-based courses.

Course projects may be used as the springboard for Extreme Bootstrap start-up companies.

Contact us at applications@xspeech.com if your company wants to develop an application of speech and language.
