Extreme Entrepreneurship Do you have what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur? What does it take? More than anything else, an entrepreneur needs conviction, passion, commitment and perseverance. An entrepreneur never gives up. He or she may not overcome all obstacles, but will always find a way around them. The ICISLT program can meet its goals only if many companies share in the effort and, in particular, only if they develop applications that use the technology. To further these ends, ICISLT will not only develop technology but will help companies that use the technology grow and prosper. ICISLT will even help create companies to use the technology where there are opportunities that are not being followed by any existing companies. To help these companies, ICISLT is developing a series of courses in Extreme Entrepreneurship, based in part on the experiences of Dragon Systems, Inc. A company practicing Extreme Entrepreneurship needs little or no capital to get started. It grows by bootstrapping rather than by capital infusion. It quickly becomes profitable and is designed to stay profitable almost by default. It does not need venture capital, but it can utilize an especially efficient form called Extreme Venture Capital. It has an IPO not as an exit event, but only if and when being public is in the best long term interest of the enterprise. Compared to typical entrepreneurial scenarios, Extreme Entrepreneurship maximizes the probability of success, not the expected value obtained from a small fraction of spectacular successes averaged with a large number of failures. Combined with a longer time scale as in Extreme Venture Capital, it also maximizes the return on investment. |
